MANAGING PRINCIPAL
Ian Maxwell, LEED AP
Ian Maxwell founded Atlas in 2013 after a career that began in institutional finance at Morgan Stanley and continued through six years of hands-on construction management at Shawmut, Rand, and Sigal — where he managed national retail build-outs for Tiffany & Co. and Chanel, occupied SCIF renovations, laboratory build-outs, and historic DC commercial projects before restructuring Sigal's Commercial Interiors Department. That path — from analyst to builder to advocate — gave Ian a perspective most owner's representatives don't have: what a project looks like from every seat at the table. Ian has overseen $500M+ in construction value across 2.5M+ SF and 100+ projects in 12 commercial sub-sectors, delivered 98% of projects within the projected schedule, and managed a 30-building Fortune 100 portfolio to within 0.03% of target budget. He holds a BA in Business Management from Gettysburg College.
COMPANY HISTORY
Founded in 2013, Atlas has spent more than a decade building a proven track record of success in one of the most demanding construction markets in the country. The Washington, DC region's regulatory complexity — HPRB historic preservation reviews, DCRA and DOEE permitting, ANC coordination, SCIF federal security compliance, and LEED certification — creates the conditions where experienced owner's representation either saves or loses months of schedule.
Experts in adapting to change, Atlas and its partners are dedicated to helping clients succeed in an ever-evolving industry. We have worked with a wide range of clients, including real estate developers, brokers, property managers, SCIF and federal security, schools, laboratories, medical facilities, law firms, non-profits, restaurants, and breweries.
Atlas projects have been recognized with five industry awards, including four AIA honors for sustainable design and the 2025 NAIOP DC/MD Award of Merit for Best Interiors.
